We are a small and friendly chamber-sized rehearsal orchestra, conducted by Peter Le Tissier and led by Raymond Hon. We play for enjoyment, rather than working towards concerts, and this enables us to play a wide variety of repertoire in an unpressured environment. We play a programme of music (typically an overture and two symphonies, or maybe a concerto) for 3 to 4 weeks, before starting a new programme.
Our repertoire includes Beethoven, Haydn, Mendelssohn, Dvorak, Bizet, Schumann, Mozart, Schubert and many other composers . We borrow music from the Reid Music Library and also have a large, and expanding, library of music of our own. A reasonable level of playing expertise is required, but there is no audition. The orchestra provides excellent practice for improving one’s playing and sight-reading skills and, if one wishes, sheet music may be borrowed for practising.
